Poetry Lauds The Optimist
May 31, 2005
Joshua Mehigan’s debut book of poetry, The Optimist, was lauded in the June 2005 issue of Poetry, one of the finest poetry magazines in the U.S. In the omnibus review, where ten books were featured, The Optimist was described as “by some margin the best book in this roundup.” In Mehigan, the thirty-five year old poet, the reviewer wrote, “we have a lot to look forward to.”
The Optimist was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Poetry and has had poems selected for feature The Pushcart Prize, Poetry Daily, and Verse Daily.

Four Ohio University Press Authors Participating in Ohioana Book Festival

Congratulations to Katherine Ziff, Andrew Welsh-Huggins, Marilou Suszko, and Dale Patrick Brown, four OU Press authors who have been invited to participate in the May 12, 2012, Ohioana Book Festival. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center in Columbus.

A salute out to David Ulbrich, co-editor of Ohio University Press’s War and Society in the Midwest series. Ulbrich’s 2011 book, Preparing for Victory: Thomas Holcomb and the Making of the Modern Marine Corps, 1936–1943 (U.S. Naval Institute), recently won two awards from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. The Greene Award is given to a book of distinguished nonfiction; the Simmons/Shaw Award is for work Ulbrich (U.S. Army Engineering School) has done toward advancing and preserving Marine Corps history.
Ministers of Fire Earns Starred Review in PW

The February 27th issue of Publishers Weekly features a glowing review of Ministers of Fire, the forthcoming debut by Mark Harril Saunders. And not only a glowing review, but a most-esteemed “starred” review that calls the book an “impressive first novel, a complex spy thriller,” and goes on to recommend it to both genre and general readers.
